Nestle TollHouse Choco-Chip Cookies

Updated: Jun 15, 2021

I made these Nestle TollHouse cookies while I was shooting for my series on Instagram called 'Desserts inspired by TV shows.' I remember watching an episode of FRIENDS where Monica and Phoebe are trying to figure out Phoebe's grandma's cookies recipe and they end up realising that those are the OG Nestle Tollhouse Choco-chip cookies. Ah! Even the thought of that episode cracks me up every time. Or maybe my opinions are just biased when it comes to the sitcom. Oh man, I absolutely love that show... and the cookies too! They sure are worth Ross throwing up and tasting 22 batches ;) iykyk

Here is the link of the episode that I shot for the series, have a look and let me know what you think in the comments section : https://www.instagram.com/reel/CMUjvECjZ_H/

Now coming back to the cookies, I tried to look for the cookie dough online so that they can be as authentic as possible. Because I live in India, I wasn't able to get my hands on the cookie dough. But then I did some research and found out that the cookie dough ingredients and measurements are right behind the box which made my job very easy. I thought they'd have like a secret-not easily available ingredient in there, but there wasn't any. It's a very simple and quick recipe. You guys will love it! The only issue in the recipe is that it contains eggs. Now, I tried to substitute the eggs with flax powder, yogurt, mashed banana but nothing seemed to work. The cookie wouldn't hold its texture without the addition of eggs. I am working on an eggless choco chip cookies recipe and something tells me I am very very close. I'll be posting it as soon as I get the recipe right, so hang in there please ?

I also have a sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan option super duper gooey and amazing choco chip cookies recipe coming soon on the blog for all you health freaks for a guilt-free indulge.

The method and ingredients are pretty simple. For a more TollHouse touch, I bought Nestle milk chocolate bars, chopped them up and added them to the batter. Trust me, they make a HUGE difference. The chocolate chunks give the cookies a gooey texture because they don't set completely even after the cookies are cooled, which our dark/milk compound doesn't. The milk chocolate gives a nice kick to the cookies. Get ready to get your hands messy with chocolate everytime you eat these cookies. If you don't like super gooey cookies, just bake them for a little longer than the mentioned time or use compound chocolate instead. These cookies taste more amazing if you dunk them in milk and eat them too!

Let's get started!

  1. For this recipe, you will need :

2. In a bowl, add softened butter and cream along with powdered sugar and brown. Whisk till creamy and both sugars are dissolved.

3. Add in the egg and vanilla essence and whisk well.

4. Fold in the dry ingredients (sifted flour, salt and baking soda).

5. Add in the chocolate chips/chunks.

6. Chill the cookie dough for 30 mins and let it harden so that it is easy to shape.

7. Scoop out 15gm (1 tbsp) of dough on the baking tray. Leave space for the cookies to spread.

8. Bake at 190 C for 12 minutes.

9. Let them cool and enjoy!
